Meropenem
Indications/Uses
Pneumonia, nosocomial pneumonia, UTI, intra-abdominal, gynecology (eg, endometritis), skin & skin structure infections; meningitis, septicemia. Empiric treatment in adults w/ suspected febrile neutropenic infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Pneumonia, UTI, gynecological infections eg, endometritis, skin & skin structure infections 500 mg IV 8 hrly. Nosocomial pneumonia, peritonitis, suspected febrile neutropenia, septicemia 1 g IV 8 hrly. Meningitis 2 g 8 hrly. Childn 3 mth-12 yr 10-20 mg/kg 8 hrly. Meningitis 40 mg/kg 8 hrly.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
History of hypersensitivity. Liver disease. History of GI complaint especially colitis. Co-administration w/ other potentially nephrotoxic drugs. Patients w/ CNS disorders or bacterial meningitis &/or impaired kidney functions. Pregnancy & lactation. Infant <3 mth.
Adverse Reactions
Local inj site reactions, systemic allergic reactions, rash, pruritus, urticaria, erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pseudomembranous colitis, reversible thrombocythemia, eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, neutropenia, false positive Coombs' test result; increased serum transaminase, bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase & LDH; headache, paresthesia, convulsion, oral & vag candidiasis.

Probenecid, sodium valproate.
