Cinnarizine
Indications/Uses
Supportive therapy of symptoms of vertigo, dizziness, tinnitus, nystagmus & vomiting. Supportive therapy of cerebrovascular disturbances including vascular headaches, irritability, memory loss & difficulty in concentration. Supportive therapy of peripheral circulatory disorders including Reynaud's phenomenon, acrocyanosis, trophic disorders & varicose ulcers, paresthesia, nocturnal cramps & cold extremities. Prophylaxis against travel sickness. Migraine prophylaxis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cerebral circulatory disorders 75 mg daily. Peripheral circulatory disorders 50-75 mg 3 times daily. Equilibrium disorders 75 mg daily. Max daily dosage: 225 mg. Travel sickness Adult 25 mg 2 hr before traveling & 12.5 mg every 8 hr during the journey. Childn 5-12 yr ½ adult dose.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Parkinson's disease.
Special Precautions
Co-administration w/ alcohol or CNS depressants. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, GI disturbances, extrapyramidal symptoms (mainly in the elderly).
Drug Interactions
Increased sedative effect when co-administered w/ alcohol, CNS depressants or TCA.
