Montelukast
Indications/Uses
Prophylaxis & chronic treatment of asthma including the prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Asthma 1 tab once daily in the evening. Prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction 1 tab 2 hr before exercise. An additional dose should not be taken w/in 24 hr.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Do not use as monotherapy & in the management of exercised-induced bronchospasm. Should not be used to treat acute asthma attacks. Should not be abruptly substituted for inhaled or oral corticosteroids. Patients w/ known aspirin hypersensitivity should avoid aspirin or NSAIDs during therapy. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <15 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Upper resp infection. Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting; elevated levels of serum transaminases (ALT, AST); rash; pyrexia.
Drug Interactions
Decreased AUC w/ phenobarb. Phenytoin, rifampicin. Increased systemic exposure w/ gemfibrozil.

R03DC03 - montelukast ; Belongs to the class of leukotriene receptor antagonists. Used in the systemic treatment of obstructive airway diseases.
