Indications/Uses
As additional therapy for simple or complex partial seizures & for partial seizures w/ secondary generalization in patients not satisfactorily controlled or intolerant w/ standard antiepileptic drugs either in single or combination therapy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 900-1,800 mg/day. Day 1: 300 mg once daily. Day 2: 300 mg twice daily. Day 3: 300 mg 3 times daily. Thereafter dose can be increased to 1,200 mg/day in 3 divided dose & if necessary, further titration can occur using treatments of 300 mg/day in 3 divided doses. Max: 2,400 mg/day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Renal impairment, haemodialysis. Absence seizures. Discontinuation of gabapentin &/or addition or substitution of alternative therapy should be gradual, over a min of 1 wk. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Somnolence, dizziness, ataxia, fatigue, nystagmus, headache, tremor, diplopia, nausea &/or vomiting, rhinitis, amblyopia.
