Glyceryl trinitrate (nitroglycerin)
Indications/Uses
Prevention & long-term treatment of angina pectoris.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Retard cap 2.5 mg 1 cap 2 or 3 times daily. Severe cases: 2 cap 2 or 3 times daily. Retard Forte cap 1 cap twice daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole w/ water.
Contraindications
Severe anaemia. Head trauma, increased intracranial pressure, cerebral bleeding. Incipient glaucoma. Acute circulatory failure (shock, circulatory collapse). Hypotension. Cardiogenic shock. Concomitant intake of sildenafil.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Orthostatic hypotension, reflex tachycardia, collapse, reduced BP related to angina symptoms, headache, drowsiness, flushing.
Drug Interactions
Vasodilators, antihypertensives, β-blockers, Ca antagonist, neuroleptics or TCA, sildenafil & alcohol; dihydroergotamine; heparin.
