Ketoconazole
Indications/Uses
Dermatophyte skin infections eg, tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea manus, tinea pedis. Cutaneous candidiasis (including vulvitis), tinea versicolor (pityriasis) & seborrheic dermatitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tinea infection & cutaneous candidiasis Apply once daily. Cover affected area & immediate surrounding area. Usual duration of treatment: Tinea versicolor & yeast infection: 2-3 wk; tinea cruris: 2-4 wk; tinea corporis: 3-4 wk; tinea pedis: 4-6 wk. Seborrheic dermatitis Apply to affected area twice daily for 2-4 wk or until clearing. Maintenance therapy: Once or twice wkly.
Special Precautions
Not for ophth use. If co-administered w/ a topical corticosteroid, it is recommended to continue applying a mild topical corticosteroid in the morning & to apply Nizoral 2% cream in the evening to prevent a rebound effect after discontinuation of prolonged topical corticosteroid treatment. Subsequently & gradually w/draw the topical corticosteroid therapy over a period of 2-3 wk. May impair ability to drive & operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Skin burning sensation; application site erythema & pruritus.
