Indications/Uses
Amenorrhoea & abnormal uterine bleeding due to hormonal imbalance w/o organic disorders. Endometriosis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Amenorrhoea & abnormal uterine bleeding due to hormonal imbalance w/o organic disorders 5-20 mg daily starting from 5th day until 25th day of the menstrual cycle. Endometriosis Initially 10 mg daily for wk, may add 5 mg/day every 2 wk until max dose 30 mg/day. Treatment can continue for 6-8 mth.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Thromboembolic processes, breast cancer, undiagnosed vag bleeding, abortion, pregnancy, severe hepatic failure.
Special Precautions
Migraine, history of mental depressions, diabetes, hepatic failure. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Depression, amenorrhea, spotting, oedema, cervical secretion.
ATC Classification
G03AC01 - norethisterone ; Belongs to the class of progestogens. Used as systemic contraceptives.
