Gabapentin
Indications/Uses
Adjunctive therapy in partial seizures w/ or w/o secondary generalization in adult & childn ≥3 yr. Treatment of neuropathic pain in adult ≥18 yr.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 900-1,800 mg daily. Day 1: 300 mg once daily. Day 2: 300 mg twice daily. Day 3: 300 mg 3 times daily. Thereafter, dose can be increased to 1,800 mg daily in 3 divided doses & if necessary, further titration can occur using increments of 300 mg daily in divided doses.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ acute pancreatitis, ineffective to general primer seizure like absence, galactose intolerance or galactosemia related to the lactose content.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal pain, backache, fatigue, fever, headache, viral infection, vasodilation, constipation, diarrhea, dyspepsia, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, leukopenia, peripheral edema, wt gain, bone fracture, myalgia, amnesia, ataxia, cough, pharyngitis, rhinitis.

Antacids, alcohol.
