Clarithromycin
Indications/Uses
Pharyngitis, tonsillitis, acute maxillary sinusitis & exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, uncomplicated skin & skin structure infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Pharyngitis/tonsillitis 250 mg 12 hrly for 10 days. Acute maxillary sinusitis 500 mg 12 hrly for 14 days. Acute exacerbation of bronchitis due to Strep pneumoniae & Moraxella catarrhalis 250 mg 12 hrly for 7-14 days. Due to H. influenzae 500 mg 12 hrly for 7-14 days. Pneumonia 250 mg 12 hrly for 7-14 days. Uncomplicated skin & skin structure infection 250 mg 12 hrly for 7-14 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to clarithromycin, erythromycin & other macrolide antibiotics.
Special Precautions
Diarrhea after drug administration. Liver & kidney dysfunction. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <12 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, nausea, taste disturbances, abdominal pain, headache.
Drug Interactions
Theophylline, carbamazepine.
