Pantoprazole
Indications/Uses
Duodenal & gastric ulcer. Moderate to severe reflux esophagitis. Pathological hypersecretion associated w/ Zollinger-Ellison syndrome & other malignancies.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Doudenal & gastic ulcer, moderate & severe reflux esophaghitis 40 mg IV daily. Long-term treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome or other pathological hypersecretory conditions Initially 80 mg IV then adjust dose as needed. Doses >80 mg daily should be given in 2 divided doses.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
IV administration recommended only if oral route is inappropriate. Not for mild GI complaints eg, nervous dyspepsia. Exclude possibility of malignancy of gastric ulcer or malignant disease of the esophagus prior to treatment. Confirm reflux esophagitis diagnosis by endoscopy. Patients w/ impaired renal function. Discontinue if liver enzyme level increases. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn. Elderly.
Drug Interactions
Monitor prothrombin time when used concomitantly w/ anticoagulants (coumarin).
