Lansoprazole
Indications/Uses
Healing of duodenal & benign gastric ulcers, reflux oesophagitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 30 mg once daily. Duration of treatment: Duodenal ulcer, reflux oesophagitis: 4 wk. Benign gastric ulcer: 8 wk.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach.
Special Precautions
Exclude malignancy before treatment. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Rarely headache, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, constipation, flatulence, dizziness, fatigue, rash, urticaria & pruritis.
Drug Interactions
May retard metabolism & excretion of OC, phenytoin, theophylline, warfarin. Absorption reduced by antacids & sucralfate.
ATC Classification
A02BC03 - lansoprazole ; Belongs to the class of proton pump inhibitors. Used in the treatment of peptic ulcer and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
