Indications/Uses
Complicated intra-abdominal, skin & skin structure infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 100 mg followed by 50 mg 12 hrly. Administer through IV infusion over approx 30-60 min. Duration of treatment: 5-14 days.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Caution when used for monotherapy in patients w/ complicated intra-abdominal infections secondary to clinically apparent intestinal perforation; w/ known hypersensitivity to tetracyclines. Consider pseudomembranous colitis in patients w/ diarrhea. Carefully monitor patients during therapy to prevent superinfections. Monitor patients w/ severe hepatic impairment. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, pruritus, rash, headache, dizziness, phlebitis, thrombophlebitis. Prolonged prothrombin time, bilirubinemia, increased BUN.
Drug Interactions
Concurrent use w/ OC may render OC less effective. Amphotericin B, amphotericin B lipid complex, diazepam, esomeprazole & omeprazole should not be administered simultaneously.
