Valacyclovir
Indications/Uses
Skin & mucous membranes HSV infections including initial & recurrent genital herpes infections, & herpes zoster.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Herpes zoster 1,000 mg 3 times daily for 7 days. Patient w/ CrCl 15-30 mL/min 1,000 mg twice daily; CrCl <15 mL/min 1,000 mg once daily. Herpes simplex 500 mg twice daily. Patient w/ CrCl <15 mL/min 500 mg once daily. Duration of therapy: Initial episodes: 10 days; recurrent episodes: 5 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to valacyclovir & acyclovir.
Special Precautions
Not to be used during pregnancy. Nursing women.
Adverse Reactions
Skin rashes & GI effect eg, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea & abdominal pain.
