Ondansetron
Indications/Uses
Management of nausea & vomiting caused by chemotherapy & radiotherapy. Prevention & treatment of post-op nausea & vomiting.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Post-op nausea & vomiting 4 mg IM as a single dose or slow IV inj. Prevention of nausea & vomiting due to chemotherapy Adult Highly emetogenic chemotherapy (eg, cisplatin) Initially 8 mg slow IV for 15 min prior to chemotherapy followed by 1 mg/hr continuous infusion for <24 hr or 2 inj of 8 mg slow IV or infusion w/in 15 min prior to chemotherapy then at 4-hr interval. Alternatively 8 mg orally twice daily for <5 days. Less emetogenic chemotherapy (eg, cyclospamide) 8 mg slow IV or infusion w/in 15 min prior to chemotherapy followed by 8 mg orally twice daily for up to 5 days. Childn >4 yr 5 mg IV 15 min prior to chemotherapy, followed by 4 mg orally 12 hrly for <5 days. Patients w/ moderate to severe liver impairment Max: 8 mg daily.
Special Precautions
1st trimester of pregnancy. Lactation. Childn <2 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, constipation, burning sensation of the head & epigastrium, sedation, diarrhea.

A04AA01 - ondansetron ; Belongs to the class of serotonin (5HT3) antagonists. Used for the prevention of nausea and vomiting.
