Piroxicam
Indications/Uses
Acute musculoskeletal disorders, OA, RA, ankylosing spondylitis. Acute gout.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Acute musculoskeletal disorders 40 mg daily for 1st 2 days as a single or divided dose, then 20 mg daily for 7-14 days. OA, RA, ankylosing spondylitis 20 mg daily as single dose. Acute gout Initially, 40 mg daily as a single dose or in divided doses, then 40 mg daily for 4-6 days.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to aspirin. History of GI bleeding or ulceration.
Special Precautions
Peptic ulcer, renal dysfunction, compromised cardiac function, hypertension, intrinsic coagulation defects. Patients on anticoagulant therapy or highly protein-bound drugs.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances & bleeding, peptic ulceration, headache, dizziness, blurred vision, tinnitus, skin rash, pruritus, edema.
Drug Interactions
Lithium.
