Lincomycin

Indications/Uses

Serious infections due to Staph, Strep & Pneumococcus infections.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Adult Serious infections 500 mg 3 times daily. Severe infections 500 mg 4 times daily. Childn >1 mth Serious infections 30 mg/kg daily in 3-4 divided doses. Severe infections 60 mg/kg daily in 3-4 divided doses.

Administration

Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take w/ full glass of water on an empty stomach 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to lincomycin & clindamycin. Newborns.

Special Precautions

GI disease especially colitis. History of asthma. Pregnancy & lactation.

Adverse Reactions

Glossitis, stomatitis, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, enterocolitis, pruritus, hematologic reactions, hypersensitivity reactions, skin rash, urticaria, tinnitus, vertigo.

Drug Interactions

Increase the effect of neuromuscular-blocking agents. Anti-peristaltic agents eg, opiate & diphenoxilate might worsen the patients’ condition. Cross-resistance w/ erythromycin might occur.
