Ciprofloxacin
Indications/Uses
UTI; resp tract, bones, joints, skin & soft tissue infections; GIT infections. Acute gonorrhea & osteomyelitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
UTI
Mild/Moderate: 250 mg twice daily. Severe: 500 mg twice daily.
Resp tract, bones, joints, skin & soft tissue infections
Mild/Moderate: 500 mg twice daily. Severe: 750 mg twice daily.
GIT infections
500 mg twice daily.
Acute gonorrhea
250 mg as a single dose.
Acute osteomyelitis
≥750 mg twice daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to minimise GI discomfort. Do not take w/ antacids, Fe or dairy products.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other quinolones. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <12 yr.
Special Precautions
CNS damage, kidney disorders, overgrowth of microorganisms (prolonged use). Avoid excessive sunlight exposure. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery.
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity. GI & CNS disorders. Renal/urogenital effects, liver disease, haematological effects, effects on lab value/deposit urine. CV effects.

Mineral-containing antacids, theophylline, cyclosporine, probenecid, anticoagulants. Metoclopramide.
