Vitamin D Deficiency Disease Summary

Overview

Vitamin D deficiency is a condition wherein there is low circulating levels of vitamin D. Vitamin D is an essential steroid hormone found in the body.
Patients with vitamin D deficiency may present with fracture with minimal trauma, hypophosphatemia, muscle cramps, neuromuscular, paresthesia, and even severe hypocalcemia in the latter stages of the disease.
Serum 25(OH)D is a good indicator of vitamin D status and stores.
Vitamin D supplementation would help to prevent vitamin D deficiency.
