Paracetamol
Indications/Uses
Relief of fever, headache, symptoms of cold & flu, toothache & teething discomfort, fever after vaccination.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Childn 10-12 yr 10-15 mL every 6 hr, 7-9 yr 7-10 mL every 6 hr, 6 yr 5-7 mL every 6 hr. Max: Not >qds.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Severe & active hepatic impairment.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if severe skin reactions occur. Not to be taken if allergic to paracetamol; w/ other paracetamol-containing drugs. Avoid large doses in patients w/ hepatic impairment. Renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Angioedema; thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, neutropenia, pancytopenia, methaemoglobinaemia, agranulocytosis.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced anticoagulant effect of warfarin & other coumarins. Increased hepatotoxicity w/ barbiturates, TCAs, alcohol. Increased absorption by metoclopramide or domperidone. Reduced absorption by cholestyramine. Reduced metabolism of zidovudine. Increased metabolism w/ anticonvulsant, steroid OCs.
