Amlodipine besilate
Indications/Uses
1st-line treatment of HTN & myocardial ischaemia. Monotherapy or in combination w/ other antianginal drugs in angina which is refractory to nitrates &/or adequate doses of β-blockers.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & elderly Initially 5 mg once daily, may be increased to max 10 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to dihydropyridines eg, nifedipine, nicardipine, isradipine.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ cardiac failure. Hepatic impairment. Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception. Pregnancy & lactation. Not recommended in childn.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, oedema, fatigue/somnolence, nausea, flushing, palpitations, dizziness; vomiting, abdominal pain; allergic reactions eg, pruritus, rash, angioedema, erythema multiforme.
