Pharmacology: Mode of Action: Mimics inhibition of COX-2 by reducing the prostaglandin productions.
Introduction: Pain is defined by International Association for Study of Pain (IASP) as "an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or describe in terms of such damage".
The World Health Organization (WHO): 80% has either insufficient or no access to treatment for moderate to severe pain. Every year, 10 millions of people around the world suffer from such pain without treatment.
NSAIDs-frequently prescribed medicines for analgesia in primary care, after Paracetamol. The main therapeutic activity of each drug is accompanied by secondary effects, some of which have serious unwanted side effects.
Clinical Evidence: Ozonized of olive oil and methyl oleate inhibit the expression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) through the suppression of IxB/NFxB- dependent pathway in lipopolysaccharide- stimulated macrophages-like THP-1 cells.
Results: It was demonstrated that ozonized olive oil significantly inhibits the overproduction of PGE2 as well as COX-2 expression by inactivation of NFxB.
