Fe (III) hydroxide sucrose complex
Indications/Uses
Fe deficiency when clinically needed to deliver Fe rapidly to Fe stores, in patients who cannot tolerate or are non-compliant to oral Fe therapy, in active inflammatory bowel disease where oral Fe prep are ineffective.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Individualized dosage. Adult & elderly 5-10 mL 1-3 times wkly based on Hb level. Childn Not to exceed 0.15 mL/kg 1-3 times wkly based on Hb level.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to other parenteral Fe. Anaemias not attributable to Fe deficiency. Fe overload or disturbances in Fe utilisation.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if hypersensitivity reactions or signs of intolerance occurs. Not to be inj IM. Avoid paravenous leakage at inj site & rapid inj. History of severe asthma, eczema or other atopic allergy. Immune or inflammatory conditions (eg, SLE, RA); acute or chronic infection; bacteraemia; hypotensive episodes. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Avoid use in patients w/ hepatic dysfunction. Not to be used during pregnancy. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Anaphylactoid reactions. Transient taste perversions, hypotension, fever, shivering, inj site reactions, nausea.
