Dosage/Direction for Use
AdultMost infections, mild to moderate lower resp tract infections eg, bronchitis, pyelonephritis 250 mg bd. More severe lower resp tract infections or suspected pneumonia 500 mg bd. UTI 125 mg bd. Pyelonephritis 250 mg bd. Uncomplicated gonorrhoea 1 g as single dose. Childn 125 mg bd. Max: 250 mg daily. Otitis mediaChildn >2 yr 250 mg bd or 15 mg/kg bd. Max: 500 mg daily, <2 yr 125 mg bd or 10 mg/kg bd. Max: 250 mg daily. Oral suspLyme diseaseAdult & childn >12 yr 500 mg bd for 20 days.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to penicillins. Avoid prolonged use; patients concurrently treated w/ potent diuretics eg, frusemide. May cause pseudomembranous colitis. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances including diarrhoea, nausea & vomiting; pseudomembranous colitis; headache; eosinophilia, transient increases of hepatic enzymes.
