Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult : Topical Acne As 2.5-10% preparation: Apply 1-2 times/day. May increase to tid if needed. As cleanser: Wash 1-2 times/day. Decubitus/Stasis ulcers As 20% lotion: Apply 8-12 hrly.

Topical/Cutaneous
Acne
Adult: As 2.5-10% preparation: Apply 1-2 times daily after cleansing, may gradually increase to tid if needed. Start w/ lower strength preparations. As cleanser: Wash 1-2 times daily.
Child: ≥12 yr Same as adult dose.

Decubitus/stasis ulcers
Adult: As 20% lotion: Apply 8-12 hrly.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Childn. Pregnancy and lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Dry skin, erythema, skin exfoliation and burning sensation, pruritus, irritation, allergic contact dermatitis, swelling face.
Potentially Fatal: Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions.
Patient Counseling Information
Avoid unnecessary sun exposure. May cause discolouration of hair and dyed fabrics.
MonitoringParameters
Perform sensitivity test before using the product for the 1st time.
Overdosage
Symptom: Severe irritation: Management: Symptomatic treatment.
Drug Interactions
Decreased efficacy and increase irritation if concomitantly administered w/ tretinoin, isotretinoin and tazarotene. Temporary skin and facial hair discolouration (yellow/orange) w/ sulphonamide-containing products.
Action
Description: Benzoyl peroxide has mild keratolytic effect and antimicrobial activity due to release of free-radical oxygen which oxidizes bacterial protein. It is active against Staphylococcus epidermidis and Propionibacterium acnes.
Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption: Approx 5% is absorbed through the skin.
Metabolism: Metabolised in the skin to benzoic acid.
Excretion: Via urine.
