Description
Active Ingredient: Guaifenesin.
Excipients/Inactive Ingredients: Adult syrup: sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, sodium citrate, menthol, citric acid anhydrous, Saccharin Sodium, liquid glucose, caramel liquid, carboxymethyl cellulose, apricot flavour and purified water.
Children syrup: sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, cherry flavour, peppermint oil, citric acid anhydrous, saccharin sodium, sucrose, sodium citrate, FD&C Red No. 40, purified water.
Action
Breacol Expectorant contains Guaifenesin which has expectorant action which facilitates the removal of mucous.
Indications/Uses
Breacol Expectorant is used as an expectorant for symptomatic relief of coughs due to colds and upper respiratory tract infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
How long to take it: If the patient is coughing for more than a week, please consult a doctor.
If the patient forget to take it: If the patient forget to take Breacol Expectorant, please take it at the next dose.
Adult syrup: How much to take: Adults: 12 years and above: Take 2-4 teaspoons (10-20ml) every 4 hours as required.
When to take it: Take Breacol Expectorant for Adults every 4 hours as required.
Children syrup: How much to take: Age: 2 to 6 years old: Take 1-2 teaspoons (5-10ml) every 4 hours as required.
Age: 6-12 years old: Take 2-4 tablespoon (10-20ml) every 4 hours as required.
Do not use in children less than 2 years of age. Please consult a doctor before use.
Please use with caution and consult doctor's/pharmacist's advice in children 2 to 6 years of age.
When to take it: Take Breacol Expectorant for Children when the patient is having cough due to colds and upper respiratory tract infections.
Overdosage
Excessive use may cause nausea and vomiting.
If the patient takes more than they should, tell the doctor or pharmacist.
Children syrup: Guaifenesin may also have a mild excretion of uric acid effect and large dosages may cause stones on kidney, bladder and urinary tract.
Contraindications
Known hypersensitivity to Guaifenesin or any other ingredients in the formulation.
Talk to a doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
Please consult a doctor or pharmacist if the patient is taking other medicines.
Adult syrup: Usage during pregnancy and lactation should be considered based on risk benefit.
Talk to a doctor or pharmacist if the patient is pregnant or breast-feeding.
Special Precautions
Do not take more than the recommended dose.
If the patient is about to have carcinoid syndrome, tell a doctor that the patient is taking this medicine. It may interfere with the results of these tests.
If symptoms persist, consult the doctor.
Children syrup: If the patient is coughing continuously for more than a week, please consult a doctor.
Use In Pregnancy & Lactation

Side Effects
Rarely, the syrup may cause gastrointestinal discomfort and drowsiness.

Caution For Usage
Disposal: Please discard the bottle once medication is finished or expired.
Storage
Adult syrup: Do not store Breacol Expectorant for Adults above 30°C.
Children syrup: Store Breacol Expectorant below 30°C.

Presentation/Packing
Adult syr 100 mg/5 mL (a thick amber coloured liquid, free from foreign matter. A menthol and apricot odour taste) x 60 mL, 120 mL. Childn syr 50 mg/5 mL (a clear, red coloured liquid, free from foreign matter and crystals. A minty and mild cherry taste and odour) x 60 mL.
