Contents
Miconazole nitrate
Indications/Uses
Dermatophytes or yeasts, mycoses & other fungi eg, Tinea capitis, corporis, manuum, barbae, cruris, pedis. Tinct: Adjuvant treatment of onychomycosis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cream Apply bd for 2-6 wk. Continue treatment at least 1 wk after signs & symptoms have disappeared. Tinct Apply thick layer to infected nail & surrounding area bd. Continue treatment until new nail has started to grow & definite cure is observed.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to miconazole or other imidazole derivatives.
Special Precautions
Discontinue treatment if severe hypersensitivity eg, anaphylaxis & angioedema occur. Concomitant use in patients on warfarin. Avoid contact w/ eyes. Pregnancy & lactation. Tinct: Not to be applied to open lesions or on mucous membranes.
Adverse Reactions
Skin burning sensation, inflammation & hypopigmentation; application site irritation, burning, pruritus, reaction & warmth.
Drug Interactions
Monitor anticoagulant effect w/ warfarin. Increased oral hypoglycemic & phenytoin effects.

D01AC02 - miconazole ; Belongs to the class of imidazole and triazole derivatives. Used in the topical treatment of fungal infection.
