Indications/Uses
Oropharyngeal cavity & GIT candidosis in adults & ped ≥6 mth.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Oropharyngeal candidosis Adult & childn ≥2 yr 2.5 mL qds. Infant 6-24 mth 1.25 mL qds. GIT candidosis Adult, childn & infant ≥6 mth 20 mg/kg daily in 4 divided doses. Max: 250 mg qds.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity miconazole or other imidazole derivatives. Combination w/ substrates prolonging QT interval eg, astemizole, bepridil, cisapride, dofetilide, halofantrine, mizolastine, pimozide, quinidine, sertindole, terfenadine; ergot alkaloids; HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors eg, simvastatin, lovastatin; triazolam, oral midazolam; warfarin. Hepatic dysfunction. Infant <6 mth.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if severe hypersensitivity & serious skin reaction occur. Hypoglycemia. Concomitant use w/ phenytoin & oral hypoglycemics. Ensure gel does not obstruct the throat especially in infants & young childn 6 mth-2 yr. Avoid use during pregnancy. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Dysgeusia; dry mouth, nausea, oral discomfort, vomiting, regurgitation; abnormal taste.
Drug Interactions
Inhibited metabolism of substrates prolonging QT interval eg, astemizole, bepridil, cisapride, dofetilide, halofantrine, mizolastine, pimozide, quinidine, sertindole, terfenafine; ergot alkaloids; HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors eg, simvastatin, lovastatin; triazolam, oral midazolam; warfarin. Increased or prolonged therapeutic outcome &/or adverse effects w/ oral hypoglycemics eg, sulphonylureas; phenytoin; HIV PIs eg, saquinavir; antineoplastic agents eg, vinca alkaloids, busulfan, docetaxel; Ca-channel blockers eg, dihydropyridines, verapamil; immunosuppresive agents eg, cyclosporine, tacrolimus, sirolimus; alfentanil, alprazolam, brotizolam, buspirone, carbamazepine, cilostasol, disopyramide, ebastine, methylprednisolone, midazolam IV, reboxetine, rifabutin, sildenafil, trimetrexate.
