Indications/Uses
In combination w/ other anthelmintics for enterobiasis, ascariasis, ancylostamiasis, trichuriasis, strongyloidiasis, taeniasis, capillariasis, neurocysticerosis, trichostrongyliasis, hydatid disease (Echinococcus granulosus), filariasis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Enterobiasis, ascariasis, ancylostomiasis, trichuriasis Adult & childn >2 yr 400 mg as single dose. Childn up to 2 yr 200 mg as single dose. Dose may be repeated in 3 wk. Taeniasis, strongyloidiasis 400 mg daily for 3 days. Capillariasis 400 mg daily for 10 days. Neurocysticerosis 15 mg/kg daily for 30 days. Trichostrongyliasis 400 mg as single dose. Hydatid disease Patient >60 kg 400 mg bd for 28 days followed by 2 wk drug-free interval. Dose may be repeated for 2-3 cycles & if case is inoperable, up to 5 cycles. Patient <60 kg 10-15 mg/kg daily for 28 days. Filariasis 400 mg w/ diethyl carbamazine 6 mg/kg given once every year for 4-6 yr.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Closely monitor blood counts & hepatic function. High-dose use. Not to be used during pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Transient abdominal pain, diarrhea; headache, dizziness; elevated transaminases; leucopenia, thrombocytopenia.
Drug Interactions
Increased plasma conc w/ dexamethasone, praziquantel, cimetidine.
