Indications/Uses
Chronic constipation; pre-coma & coma hepaticum.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Chronic constipation Starting dose (for 3 days): Adult & childn ≥15 yr 15-45 mL. Maintenance: 15-30 mL, 7-14 yr 15 mL. Maintenance: 10-15 mL, 1-6 yr 5-10 mL. Maintenance: 5-10 mL. Babies 5 mL. Maintenance: 5 mL. All doses to be taken daily preferably as single dose. Pre-coma & coma hepaticum Starting dose: 30-45 mL tds.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Galactosaemia, bowel obstruction.
Special Precautions
Galactosaemia or lactase deficiency. Pre-coma & coma hepaticum diabetic patients.
Adverse Reactions
Flatulence, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain & diarrhoea occasionally w/ electrolyte imbalance (high dose).
Drug Interactions
Drugs w/ colon pH-dependent release (eg, 5-acetysalicylic acid agents) may be inactivated.
