Per 15 mL Bromhexine HCl 12 mg, pholcodine 15 mg
Indications/Uses
Excessive cough & effective expectoration in bronchitis & other resp conditions associated w/ mucoid sputum secretion.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 10-15 mL up to tds. Childn 6-12 yr 5-10 mL up to tds, 2-5 yr 2.5-5 mL up to tds.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity. Discontinue use if serotonin syndrome is suspected & skin or mucous membrane damage occurs. Gastric ulceration; adrenal insufficiency. Long-term use. Concomitant use w/ benzodiazepines, serotonergic drugs. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <2 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, vertigo, perspiration, skin rash, resp depression, transient rise in serum aminotransferase. Serotonin syndrome, adrenal insufficiency, androgen deficiency, infertility.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced CNS depressant effects by pholcodine. Additive pharmacologic effect w/ benzodiazepines. Serotonin syndrome w/ serotonergic drugs eg, SSRIs, SNRIs, TCAs, triptans, 5-HT3 receptor antagonists, mirtazapine, trazodone, tramadol, MAOIs.
