Fluticasone propionate
Indications/Uses
Prophylaxis & treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis including hay fever; perennial rhinitis. Management of associated sinus pain & pressure.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 2 sprays into each nostril once daily, preferably in the morning. Once control is achieved, titrate dose down to 1 spray in each nostril once daily (100 mcg daily). In some cases, 2 sprays into each nostril bd may be required. Max daily dose: 4 sprays into each nostril. Childn 4-11 yr 1 spray into each nostril once daily, preferably in the morning. Max daily dose: 1 spray into each nostril.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Childn <4 yr.
Special Precautions
Infections of nasal airways. Caution when transferring patients from systemic steroid treatment. Additional therapy during abnormally heavy challenge of summer allergens. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Epistaxis; headache, unpleasant taste/smell, nose & throat dryness & irritation.
Drug Interactions
CYP450 3A4 (eg, ketoconazole).
