Indications/Uses
DM in adults, adolescents & childn ≥2 yr.
Dosage/Direction for Use
SC Individualized dosage once daily, same time each day. Type 2 DM May be given w/ other antihyperglycaemic products.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. During episodes of hypoglycemia.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity & allergic reactions. Not to be administered IV. Not recommended for diabetic ketoacidosis. Hyper- & hypoglycaemia; hypokalemia; fluid retention; peripheral edema; lipodystrophy; wt gain. Immunogenicity. Intensification or rapid glucose control. Frequently monitor K & blood glucose levels. Concomitant use of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ-agonists eg, thiazolidinediones; β-blockers. May affect ability to drive & operate machinery. Hepatic & renal impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <2 yr. Elderly ≥65 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Pyrexia, malaise, asthenia; pain in extremity, myalgia, back pain; diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort & pain, aphthous ulcer, nausea; decreased appetite, hypercholesterolaemia, hypoglycaemia, vit D deficiency; nasopharyngitis, bacterial infection, UTI; diabetic neuropathy, headache, paraesthesia; anaemia; angina pectoris, MI; cough, allergic rhinitis; vertigo; hepatic steatosis; contusion; depression; urinary hesitation; dermatitis; HTN.
Drug Interactions
Increased risk of hypoglycemia w/ antidiabetics, ACE inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers, disopyramide, fibrates, fluoxetine, MAOIs, pentoxifylline, pramlintide, propoxyphene, salicylates, somatostatin analogs (eg, octreotide), sulfonamides. Decreased blood glucose-lowering effect w/ atypical antipsychotics (eg, olanzapine, clozapine), corticosteroids, danazol, diuretics, estrogens, glucagon, INH, niacin, OCs, phenothiazines, progestogens, PIs, somatropin, sympathomimetics (eg, albuterol, epinephrine, terbutaline), thyroid hormones. Decreased or increased blood glucose-lowering effect w/ alcohol, β-blockers, clonidine, lithium salts. Blunted signs & symptoms of hypoglycemia w/ guanethidine, reserpine.
