Metformin HCl
Indications/Uses
Type 2 DM.
Dosage/Direction for Use
500 mg tds. Max: 3 g daily in divided doses.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Diabetic coma & ketoacidosis; CV dysfunction including cardiac failure & recent MI; lactic acidosis or predisposing conditions, hypoxaemia. Renal & hepatic impairment.
Special Precautions
Dehydration, serious infection or trauma, patients undergoing surgery. Monitor serum vit B12 levels regularly. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Metallic taste, epigastric discomfort, nausea, vomiting, lactic acidosis, decreased vit B12 absorption.
Drug Interactions
Alcohol, sulfonylureas, cimetidine, anticoagulants.
