Indications/Uses
Functional symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. History of orthostatic hypotension. Severe hepatic insufficiency.
Special Precautions
History of sulfonamide allergy. Syncope. Intraoperative floppy iris syndrome. Discontinue use 1-2 wk prior to cataract or glaucoma surgery. Not to be given in combination w/ strong inhibitors of CYP3A4 (eg, ketoconazole) in patients w/ poor metaboliser CYP2D6 phenotype. Combination w/ strong (eg, ketoconazole) & moderate (eg, erythromycin) CYP3A4 inhibitors. Perform digital exam & determine PSA prior to & at regular intervals. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Severe renal impairment. Childn <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness; nasal congestion; ejaculation disorders including retrograde ejaculation, ejaculation failure.
Drug Interactions
Rise in plasma levels w/ cimetidine. Fall in plasma levels w/ furosemide. Increased elimination rate by diclofenac and warfarin. Increased AUC & Cmax w/ ketoconazole. Enhanced hypotensive effect w/ drugs reducing BP including anaesth, other α1-adrenoceptor antagonists.
