Influenza virus surface antigens (haemagglutinin & neuraminidase)
Indications/Uses
Prevention of flu in persons ≥65 yr; adults & childn w/ chronic pulmonary & CV disorders, chronic metabolic diseases, chronic renal dysfunction & immunodeficiencies; childn 6 mth-18 yr on long-term acetylsalicylic acid.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM/deep SC inj Adult & childn ≥36 mth 0.5 mL. Childn 6-35 mth 0.25 or 0.5 mL. Childn who have not previously been vaccinated 2nd dose should be given after at least 4 wk interval.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to eggs, chicken protein, formaldehyde, cetyltrimethyl ammon Br, polysorbate 80, gentamicin. Febrile illness or acute infection.
Special Precautions
Not to be administered intravascularly. Endogenous or iatrogenic immunosuppression.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, sweating, myalgia, arthralgia, fever, malaise, shivering, fatigue, local reactions eg, redness, swelling, pain, ecchymosis induration.
