Indications/Uses
DM.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Individualized dosage. 0.3-1 IU/kg daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Hypoglycaemia.
Special Precautions
Hyperglycaemia. Type 1 DM. Activity or diet changes. Transfer to another type or brand of insulin should be done under medical supervision. Inj site reactions. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Renal or hepatic impairment. Insulin requirement changes during pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Hypoglycaemia. Acute painful neuropathy. Temporary worsening of diabetic retinopathy. Lipodystrophy. Inj site reactions eg, redness, swelling, itching, pain & haematoma. Oedema. Urticaria, rash.
Drug Interactions
Deterioration in cardiac symptoms w/ pioglitazone. Oral hypoglycaemic agents, MAOIs, nonselective β-blocking agents, ACE inhibitors, salicylates, alcohol, anabolic steroids & sulphonamides may reduce insulin requirement. OCs, thiazides, glucocorticoids, thyroid hormones & β-sympathomimetics, growth hormone & danazol may increase insulin requirement. Octreotide/lanreotide may increase & decrease insulin requirement. Alcohol may intensify & prolong hypoglycaemic effect.
