Etravirine
Indications/Uses
HIV-1 infection in antiretroviral treatment-experienced adult patients in combination w/ a boosted PI & other antiretroviral drugs.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken with food: Swallow whole, do not chew/crush. For patients w/ swallowing difficulties, disperse tab thoroughly in a glass of water & drink immediately. Rinse the glass w/ water several times & drink each rinse completely.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Discontinue immediately if signs or symptoms of severe skin & hypersensitivity reactions develop. Fat redistribution, immune reconstitution syndrome, osteonecrosis. Hepatic & renal disease. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Rash, MI, thrombocytopaenia, anaemia, peripheral neuropathy, headache, GERD, diarrhoea, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, flatulence, gastritis, renal failure, lipohypertrophy, night sweats, DM, hyperglycaemia, hypercholesterolaemia, hypertriglyceridaemia, hyperlipidaemia, HTN, fatigue, anxiety, insomnia.
Drug Interactions
Other NNRTIs (eg, efavirenz, nevirapine), unboosted PIs (nelfinavir, indinavir), boosted PIs (tipranavir, amprenavir, fosamprenavir), digoxin, amiodarone, bepridil, disopyramide, flecainide, lidocaine (systemic), mexiletine, propafenone, quinidine, clarithromycin, warfarin, carbamazepine, phenobarb, phenytoin, rifampicin, rifapentine, rifabutin, diazepam, dexamethasone (systemic), St. John's wort, HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (eg, atorvastatin, fluvastatin, lovastatin, pravastatin, rosuvastatin, simvastatin), cyclosporine, sirolimus, tacrolimus, PDE-5 inhibitors (eg, sildenafil, vardenafil, tadalafil).
