Norfloxacin
Indications/Uses
Acute & chronic UTI, GI infections & gonorrhoea.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Gonorrhoea 800 mg single dose. Acute uncomplicated UTI 200 mg bd. Recurrent or complicated UTI & GI infections 400 mg bd.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to quinolones. Renal insufficiency.
Special Precautions
History of myasthenia gravis; phototoxicity. Moderate renal impairment. Not to be used during pregnancy & lactation. Prepubertal childn.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness. Crystalluria. Exacerbation of myasthenia gravis.
Drug Interactions
Decreased absorption w/ Mg or Al hydroxide-containing antacids. Decreased serum & urine conc w/ oral multivit & Fe- or Zn-containing mineral supplements. Decreased urinary excretion w/ probenecid. Increased theophylline plasma conc.
