Ezetimibe
Indications/Uses
Alone or in combination w/ statins or fenofibrate to reduce elevated total cholesterol, LDL-C & triglycerides & increase HDL-C. Alone or in combination w/ statins to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, surgery to increase blood flow or hospitalization for chest pain in patients w/ heart disease. Reduce plant sterols in blood levels of patients w/ sitosterolemia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Monitor for muscle pain, tenderness or weakness. Perform LFTs prior to & after initiation. Concomitant use w/ cyclosporin, warfarin or fluindione, cholestyramine, fibrates. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Hepatic disease. Pregnancy & lactation. Not recommended in childn <10 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Monotherapy & combination w/ fenofibrate: Abdominal pain. Monotherapy: Diarrhoea, flatulence, feeling tired. Combination w/ statin: Elevated LFTs (transaminases), headache, muscle pain, tenderness or weakness.
Drug Interactions
Cyclosporin, warfarin or fluindione, cholestyramine, fibrates.
