Escitalopram oxalate
Indications/Uses
Major depressive episode, panic disorder w/ or w/o agoraphobia, social or generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Major depressive episodes 10 mg once daily, may be increased to max: 20 mg daily. Panic disorder w/ or w/o agoraphobia Initially 5 mg for the 1st wk, thereafter increased to 10 mg daily. May be further increased up to max: 20 mg daily, dependent on individual patient response. Social or generalized anxiety disorder 10 mg once daily. Depending on individual patient response may be increased to max: 20 mg daily Obsessive-compulsive disorder 10 mg once daily, depending on individual patient response dose may be increased to max: 20 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Paradoxical anxiety, seizures, mania, diabetes, suicidal tendencies, hyponatraemia, haemorrhage, ECT, reversible selective MAO-A inhibitors, serotonin syndrome, St. John's wort, w/drawal reactions. Pregnancy & lactation. Not to be used in patients <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, headache, nausea, sweating, somnolence, insomnia, constipation, diarrhoea, decreased appetite, sexual dysfunction, fatigue, pyrexia, sinusitis, yawning.
Drug Interactions
MAOI, selegiline, lithium, tryptophan, agents that may lower seizure threshold, St. John's wort, cimetidine, drugs metabolised by CYP2D6, CYP2C19 enzymes.
