Meloxicam
Indications/Uses
Pain & inflammation in rheumatic disease; exacerbation of OA & ankylosing spondylitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
OA 7.5 mg daily. Max: 15 mg daily. RA 15 mg daily, may be reduced to 7.5 mg daily. Ankylosing spondylitis 15 mg daily. Dialysis patient w/ severe renal failure Max: 7.5 mg daily. Total daily dose: Max: 15 mg daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to NSAIDs or aspirin. Active peptic ulceration, severe hepatic insufficiency & non-dialysed severe renal insufficiency. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn & adolescent <15 yr.
Special Precautions
History of GI disease. Dehydration, CHF. Patients on diuretics, anticoagulants or those having undergone major surgery. Hepatic cirrhosis, nephrotic syndrome & overt renal disease. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, flatulence, diarrhea, anemia, pruritus & skin rash, lightheadedness & headache, oedema.
Drug Interactions
NSAIDs, oral anticoagulants, ticlopidine, heparin, thrombolytics, lithium, methotrexate, IUD, diuretics, antihypertensives, cholestyramine, cyclosporin.
