Memantine HCl
Indications/Uses
Moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 5 mg daily on the 1st wk, 10 mg daily on the 2nd wk then 15 mg daily on the 3rd wk & 20 mg daily from 4th wk. Max & maintenance dose: 20 mg daily. Elderly >65 yr 20 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Epilepsy, history of convulsions or predisposing factors of epilepsy. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Cardiac failure; dizziness, abnormal gait, seizures; constipation, vomiting, pancreatitis, fungal infections, HTN, venous thrombosis/thromboembolism; headache, fatigue; somnolence, confusion, hallucinations, psychotic reactions.
Drug Interactions
L-dopa, dopaminergic agonists & anticholinergics, dantrolene, baclofen, amantadine, ketamine, dextromethorphan, phenytoin.
