Description
Each 100 g of Nutren Fibre powder contains energy 441 kcal, protein 17 g, fat 16 g, carbohydrates 54 g, dietary fibre 6.5 g, fructo-oligosaccharides 2.1 g, vitamin A 270 mcg-RE, vitamin D 3.5 mcg, vitamin E 3.9 mg-TE, vitamin K 22 mcg, vitamin C 28 mg, thiamine (B1) 0.5 mg, riboflavin (B2) 0.5 mg, niacin 7.7 mg NE, vitamin B6 0.6 mg, folic acid 90 mcg, pantothenic acid 2.1 mg, vitamin B12 1.1 mcg, biotin 7 mcg, choline 200 mg, sodium 400 mg, potassium 580 mg, chloride 395 mg, calcium 265 mg, phosphorus 265 mg, magnesium 82 mg, manganese 450 mcg, iron 5.6 mg, iodine 55 mcg, copper 450 mcg, zinc 3.5 mg, selenium 24 mcg, chromium 14 mcg and molybdenum 30 mcg.
Nutren Fibre is isocaloric (1 kcal/mL) and nutritionally complete and balanced with an energy distribution of protein 16%, lipid 34% and carbohydrate 50%.
Nutren Fibre includes a blend of soluble, insoluble and bifidogenic fibres. Its unique fibre blend is designed to maintain normal intestinal function and stimulate bifidogenic effect.
Nutren Fibre is lactose-free, gluten-free and Halal certified.
Proteins: High nutritional value protein comprised of whey 50% and casein 50%. Essential amino acids requirements are met by this combination: Nitrogen 1 g/160 total calories; nitrogen 1 g/134 nonprotein calories.
Lipids: The lipid sources are low erucic rapeseed oil, medium chain triglycerides (MCT), corn oil and soy lecithin. MCT, represent 25% of lipids, are easily absorbable and rapidly utilised source of energy. Nutren Fibre, containing lipid 3.8 g/100 kcal and essential fatty acids providing 8.4% kcal, meets recommended ratio requirements.
Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates are provided by maltodextrin and pea starch to maintain a low osmolality. Carbohydrate 12.6 g/100 kcal.
Micronutrients: Vitamins and minerals meet 100% of the US RDA with 1500 mL (1500 kcal).
Fibres: Nutren Fibre has a well-balanced fibre profile including soluble, insoluble fibres and bifidogenic fibre with a total of fibre 1.5 g/100 mL.
Osmolality: 360 mOsmol/kg H2O. Nutren Fibre with low osmolality for enhanced feeding tolerance.
Action
A mixed fibre blend (soluble, insoluble and bifidogenic fibre) is required in patients. Benefits include: Bowel management; control of both constipation and diarrhoea; stimulation of healthy microflora at the expense of pathogens; and maintenance of gastrointestinal tract integrity which is most needed for people whose health is in ill state.
Indications/Uses
Nutren Fibre is appropriate for patients with normal gastrointestinal function and require long-term medical care and long-term tube feeding to enhance the nutritional status and intestinal functions.
Dosage/Direction for Use
For oral and tube feeding.
7 scoops or 58 g in 210 mL water provide 250 kcal. May be initiated at full strength but establish the regimen gradually when initiating tube feeding.
Contraindications
Patients with malabsorption problems, severe food allergies, or where enteral nutrition is contraindicated.
Special Precautions
Use with caution in patients with compromised gastrointestinal function.
Storage
Store unopened can at room temperature. Once opened, cover the can and store in a dry location, at room temperature, and use the contents within 30 days of opening.
