Indications/Uses
Poisoning due to organophosphate pesticides or related compd. Adjunct to atropine in poisoning due to organophosphate pesticides & chemicals. Overdosage by anticholinesterase drugs used in myasthenia gravis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Organophosphate poisoning 1-2 g IM/IV, max dose: 12 g/24 hr + atropine 2 mg SC/IM repeated at intervals of 5-60 min. Childn 20-60 mg/kg. Anticholinesterase overdosage 1-2 g IV followed by increments of 250 mg every 5 min.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Avoid rapid rate of IV administration. Organophosphate overdosage in myasthenia gravis. Renal insufficiency. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, dizziness, headache; vision disturbances; nausea; tachycardia; hyperventilation; muscular weakness.
Drug Interactions
Potentiated action of barbiturates. Morphine, theophylline, aminophylline, succinylcholine, reserpine & phenothiazine-type tranquilizers.
ATC Classification
V03AB04 - pralidoxime ; Belongs to the class of antidotes. Used in the management of organo-phosphate poisoning.
