Atenolol
Indications/Uses
HTN, angina pectoris, acute MI.
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN 50-100 mg daily. Angina pectoris 50-100 mg daily as single or divided doses. Acute MI 100 mg once daily or 50 mg bd for further 6-9 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Bronchospasm, obstructive airway disease, metabolic acidosis, sinus bradycardia, partial heart block, cardiogenic shock, overt cardiac failure.
Special Precautions
CHF, phaeochromocytoma, hyperthyroidism, hypoglycaemia, DM, anaesth, pregnancy, lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, bradycardia, hypotension, cold extremities, depression, hallucinations, confusion, psychotic episodes, sleep & vision disturbances.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced drugs which interfere w/ Ca transport eg, verapamil.
