Indications/Uses
NIDDM.
Dosage/Direction for Use
40-80 mg daily. Max single dose: 160 mg. Higher doses, split into bd dosing. Elderly Initially, 40 mg bd as morning & evening doses.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately before meals.
Contraindications
IDDM, diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic coma & pre-coma, hyperosmolar non-ketotic coma, after severe burns, trauma or during infections, diabetics undergoing surgery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Severe diarrhoea, severe gastroparesis, intestinal obstruction, prolonged vomiting, thyroid dysfunction.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, metallic taste, increased appetite, wt gain, rash, pruritus, photosensitivity.
Drug Interactions
Alcohol, anticoagulants, sulfonamides, salicylates, phenylbutazone, β-blockers, MAOIs, ketoconazole, miconazole, thiazide diuretics, corticosteroids, oestrogens.
