Piroxicam - Topical/Cutaneous

Piroxicam helps relieve pain and reduce inflammation associated with certain conditions affecting joints or muscles.

Apply this medicine exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.

To apply Piroxicam topical gel, follow these steps:

1. Wash your hands.
2. Clean and dry affected area before application.
3. Apply and rub Piroxicam gently on the skin until it forms a thin film. Do not cover, wrap or bandage the area unless instructed by the doctor.
4. Wash your hands after.
5. Replace the cap of the tube.

Avoid any contact of this medicine with your eyes. If an accidental contact occurs, rinse it immediately with water. Alert your doctor if you start to have any problems with your eyes.

Do not apply Piroxicam onto skin affected by lesions, wounds, or infections.

Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT apply a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

Do not use Piroxicam if you ever had a history of allergic reactions (rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes, asthma) to this medicine or other similar painkillers such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or celecoxib.

Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:

• kidney disease
• history of severe skin reactions with medication use e.g. rashes with skin peeling or blistering

Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

This medicine may make it more difficult for women to become pregnant. Inform your doctor if you are planning to have a baby soon or if you have problems becoming pregnant.

Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving Piroxicam to a child.

To avoid severe burns, do not smoke or go near naked flames. Fabrics (e.g. clothing, bedding) that has been in contact with Piroxicam gel must be washed to reduce product build up or any serious fire hazards.

Piroxicam may cause any of the following side effects: nausea, indigestion, stomach discomfort, skin irritation, redness, and itching.

This medicine may cause your skin to be more sensitive to sunlight. Avoid direct or prolonged exposure to the sun and ultraviolet (UV) lamps like tanning beds.

Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:

• rashes, breathlessness, swollen face, eyes, tongue or throat
• rashes with peeling or blistering of the skin, lips, mouth, eyes or genitals accompanied by fever

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.

Let your doctor know if you are using any other creams, ointments or other medicines on the affected area.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

Avoid alcohol.

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
