Levonorgestrel 150 mcg, ethinyloestradiol 30 mcg
Indications/Uses
OC.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 tab daily for 21 days from 1st day of cycle, followed by 7 tab-free days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Idiopathic jaundice, history of jaundice or severe pruritus during pregnancy, previous use of steroids, herpes gestationis; Dubin-Johnson or Rotor syndrome; CV or cerebrovascular lesions, thromboembolic diseases; migraine; severe HTN or DM; sickle-cell anaemia, chronic hemolytic anaemia; endometrial hyperplasia, hepatic tumours; mammary or endometrial carcinoma; other estrogen-dependent tumours; hyperlipoproteinaemia; undiagnosed vag bleeding; otosclerosis. Liver function disorders. Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Cardiac insufficiency, HTN, obesity, gallstones, asthma, depression, epilepsy, migraine, DM, severe varicose veins, phlebitis, sclerosis multiplex, chorea minor, latent tetany, benign uterine tumour, endometriosis or mastopathia, family history of juvenile thromboembolic diseases or blood coagulation disorders. Discontinue use for 6 mth after infectious hepatitis. Cessation of smoking in women >30 yr. Perform medical & gynecological exams. Renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Intermenstrual bleeding, changes in vag discharge, vag infections (eg, candidiasis), aggravation of endometriosis; breast tenderness/pain/enlargement/secretion; nausea, vomiting, cholelithiasis, cholestatic jaundice, hepatitis; thrombosis, HTN, MI; chloasma, erythema nodosum, rash; problems w/ wearing contact lenses; headache, migraine, mood changes, unusual fatigue; fluid retention, decreased glucose tolerance, changes in body wt & libido.
Drug Interactions
Hepatic enzyme inducers; antibiotics, dihydroergotamine, tranquilizers; coumarin- or indandione-containing anticoagulants; TCAs, maprotiline; oral antidiabetics, insulin; activated charcoal, laxatives; bromocriptine; hepatotoxic drugs.
