Onchomycosis is the most common disease of the nails. Nails become thickened and discoloured (white, black, yellow or green). It generally start on the free edge of the nail which becomes darker in colour. As the infection progresses, the nail can become brittle, with pieces breaking off or coming away completely from the toe or finger. The surrounding skin becomes inflamed, and painful underneath and around the nail.
The pathogens causing onchomycosis include dermatophytes, Candida and non-dermatophytic moulds. Of the dermatophytes, the most common is Trichophyton rubrum which causes more than 60% of infections worldwide.
Humidity, heat and excessive sweating are conditions that foster the proliferation of fungi under the nails. Microtraumas and abrasions can favour infection. Mycotic infections can easily be transmitted in damp environments (gym showers, swimming pools, etc) and transmission takes place easily from one infected nail to the others of the same indiviual. The earlier action is taken and the more circumscribed the infection, the quicker treatment will be effective.
SFN10 acts with a mechanism of action that is rapidly effective. It forms an adhesive barrier which keeps a strongly acid pH inside the nail, creating an environment which is hostile to the growth of fungi. SFN10 penetrates deeply into the nail, acting even in the innermost recesses.
SFN10 has been specifically developed to treat nail fungi through a triple action: It penetrates deeply into the nail due to the specific applicator and it modifies the microenvironment by lowering the pH to a value that prevents the growth of dermatophytes; through the synergetic action of its active ingredients, undecylenic acid and acetic acid, which at the acid pH of the solution have the greatest anti-mycotic activity; and it stimulates the regrowth of the nail physiologically.
Clean the nail before application (remove nail varnishes if present). Apply all over the nail and under the outer edge using the brush at least twice daily (morning and evening) is recommended until the nail is completely healed (1-3 months). Allow to dry for 1-2 min before putting on socks/tights and shoes.
The solution must be applied without any dilution.
