Concise Prescribing Info
Sertraline HCl
Symptomatic treatment of depression including depression accompanied by anxiety symptoms, in patients w/ or w/o history of mania. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Panic disorder w/ or w/o agoraphobia. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Social phobia (social anxiety disorder).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Depression & OCD Initially 50 mg daily, may be increased at least after 1 wk up to max: 200 mg daily. Panic disorder, PTSD & social phobia Initially 25 mg daily, increased to 50 mg once daily after 1 wk up to max: 200 mg daily.
May be taken with or without food.
Hypersensitivity. Concomitant use w/ irreversible MAOIs; pimozide. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Serotonin syndrome or neuroleptic malignant syndrome. Activation of hypomania or mania; schizophrenia; seizures; suicide/suicidal thoughts/suicide attempts or clinical worsening. Abnormal bleeding/hemorrhage; hyponatremia. Akathisia/psychomotor restlessness. Diabetes. Switching from SSRIs, antidepressants or anti-obsessional drugs; other serotonergic drugs eg, tryptophan, fenfluramine, 5-HT agonists. Electroconvulsive therapy. W/drawal symptoms. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Hepatic & renal impairment. Childn. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea/loose stools, dry mouth, dyspepsia, nausea; anorexia; dizziness, somnolence, tremor; insomnia; sexual dysfunction; increased sweating.
Drug Interactions
MAOIs, IV diazepam, digitoxin, warfarin, CYP450 2D6-metabolized drugs, TCAs, type 1C antiarrythmics, propafenone, flecainide.
